Advancing aged care research and innovation
BESTMED is proud to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Macquarie University’s Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI). The formalisation of the partnership, opens a new chapter of collaboration and commitment to improving medication management safety in care.
Over the past four years, BESTMED has partnered with the AIHI across three government‑funded Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) grants, exploring innovative ways to improve medication management and support in aged care settings. These projects have contributed to evidence‑based approaches that aim to reduce medication‑related harm while enhancing outcomes for older Australians.
The new MoU signals a shared commitment to accelerating work that will directly benefit the majority of Australian aged care homes. By combining BESTMED’s digital medication management expertise with AIHI’s world‑leading research in implementation science and medication safety, the partnership aims to translate research into practice at scale, where it can make a meaningful difference to the lives of older Australians.
What the collaboration means for aged care
Through this formalised partnership, BESTMED and AIHI will continue to focus on:
- Improving medication safety
- Reducing polypharmacy
- Enhancing quality of life for older Australians
- Translating evidence‑based research into real‑world aged care practice
These priorities reflect a shared vision to ensure that innovation and research lead to practical, sustainable improvements in care delivery.
